Video Spotlight: Good Ol' Country Harmony by Home Free

Ah, Home Free. You can always count on these producing great harmonies and putting out great videos that fit their songs pretty perfectly. "Good Ol' Country Harmony" is another Tim Foust original and the arrangement is his as well. I like all the references to other country groups in the song and it has a great melody. Fun to sing along with this one. So yes, Home Free, I believe I will sing along with you. As far as the video goes, once again I love the treatment they used. It's not one I'd expect which makes me enjoy it all the more. This video makes me smile and I think it might just make you smile too.

Check it out.

I believe that my love for the gentlemen of Home Free has been pretty well documented. Safe to assume that I love them still. But this time, I want to talk about the young men who portrayed young Home Free. We have Townes Genoves as young Rob Lundquist, Cole Jones as young Tim Foust, Quinn Hansen as young Austin Brown, Connor Davidson as young Adam Rupp and Caden Friesen as young Chris Rupp. Whoever was in charge of casting gets a gold star. Not only do these guys look like younger versions of Home Free, they had their mannerisms down. The moment that Townes started doing "the Gopher" is the moment I knew I was going to love this video.

Well, I always love their videos, but that's besides the point. The point being that it was a great way to introduce the younger versions of the group. I feel like this video is going to be one of the more amusing to any Home Fry who picks up all the extra touches. Like having Cole practice the infamous Foust Brow in the mirror - which he did great - and shown in the cafeteria with the guitar. You have Quinn and the hand weight and later on, his point to the other three. It was such an Austin-like gesture, expression and all. Speaking of gestures, Connor nailed Adam's beatboxing hand gestures. Caden's facial expressions were so Chris. I liked the brothers screaming part around the 50 second mark; it made me laugh. Liked the list of possible names. My favorites were The Adams Family and Aca-Holics. All in all, a very entertaining video indeed. So much fun to watch this one!

Song review: Water Tower Town by Scotty McCreery

I have an odd relationship, or whatever you want to call it, with American Idol. I was interested when I heard about it and watched the first three seasons, got annoyed with the third season and didn't watch the next only to start watching again during the fifth season. I loved the show during its sixth and seventh season, but started getting annoyed with it in the eighth. Sometime between then and now I've gone from being annoyed with it to now hating it as I see it for what it really is. I could go into more detail about that, but I won't. At least not here; maybe at another time. I'm sure many of you are wondering why I'm bothering to bring it up in the first place. Well, it's because I decided to do a review of "Water Tower Town" by the current American Idol for my next song review. Now, if you're a fan of American Idol, you might not like what I'm going to say next, but I ask that you stay with me because it'll end up being importa...

Album Review: Let It Go by Eileen Carey

Country. Pop. Rock. Eileen Carey's music blends all three styles together in a way that feels uniquely hers. I've just been trying to think if there's any other artists out there like her right now and I can't think of any. Eileen grew up in Ohio and relocated to California over 20 years ago. An independent artist, she has made quite a name for herself in California. That said, she spends a fair amount of time in Nashville and come to find out, she used Nashville musicians to track the songs of  Let It Go with all of the vocals recorded in Los Angeles. Oh, what a world we live in. I feel like you can hear influences of both places throughout the album. Let It Go is Eileen's fourth album and features three covers and eight originals. Five of which Eileen co-wrote and I was pleasantly surprised to see that another artist I like, Amy Dalley, co-wrote the other three. She (Amy) wrote "Anything That Reminds Me Of You" with her husband, Jack Sizemore, who i...

Album review: Christmas with Scotty McCreery by Scotty McCreery

First things first, I'm wishing everyone who celebrates a happy Hanukkah! Perhaps that's a strange way to kick off a review of a Christmas album, but it wouldn't have felt right not to include it. And really, when you really think and learn about what each holiday is about you see that in a way the first Hanukkah is one of the things that made Christmas possible. So once again, happy Hanukkah to all who celebrate. Those of you who have read my album reviews know this, but the way I do album reviews is to give my overall opinion and then look at each song individually after the cut. Which means that album review posts can get pretty long. Just a warning. This album came out back in October, but I never listen to Christmas music before Thanksgiving. Hence why there hasn't been a review until now. So what do I think? I think that releasing Christmas albums can be a little risky. The majority of these songs are so well known and loved already. They've been recorded ...
