Going in a different direction with this one. If you've never heard of The Piano Guys, you're in for a treat. Well, it's a treat for all of us. There's four of them: producer/videographer Paul Anderson, pianist/songwriter Jon Schmidt, cellist/songwriter Steven Sharp Nelson and music producer/songwriter Al van der Beek. What I love about these guys is that they take modern hits and pair them with classical pieces of music with gorgeous results. It's a great way to bridge two different styles. I've loved everything I've heard from them and would love to catch a show of theirs at some point.
I did another video spotlight on them in May that you can find here and have been wanting to write about them again ever since. Safe to assume that these guys will be featured in many other video spotlights down the road. But seeing as how I've deemed August to be the month of Disney, I clearly had to go with this one. It's "Let It Go" like you've most likely never heard it before. They combine it, rather appropriately, with themes from Vivaldi's "Winter". Worth mentioning that this is Demi Lovato's version of "Let It Go" that played during the credits of Frozen and not the version sung by Elsa during the movie.
Brace yourselves. It's about to get a little chilly up in here.
Considering how unbelievably hot it's been in most of the United States, watching this is rather refreshing. I mean, the song's from Frozen, so why not film it at an ice castle? Makes for a pretty spectacular set, if you ask me. The perfect location for this wonderful piece of music. This arrangement was written by Al van der Beek, Jon Schmidt and Steven Sharp Nelson and what a wonderful arrangement it is. The themes from "Winter" add so much intensity to "Let It Go".
What's interesting about this is that it's so obvious that Jon and Steven were enjoying themselves as they performed. Makes for an intriguing contrast. You know, therein lies the real magic of The Piano Guys. The music that they do is top-notch, but they always play with so much feeling that it sends it soaring to a completely new level. The best entertainers are the ones who are really feeling whatever it is that they're doing - in this case, playing an instrument. Dynamic performers are my favorite and Jon and Steven definitely fall into that category. Beautiful piece of music here. The frozen piano and the ice cello are a nice touch.
